Та въпросната ми видеокарта е SiS Onboard 661fx. Много е гадна какво да се прави нямам друга. И така де под слак като пусна Х и ми се пуска на максималната резолюция 1600х1200. Монитора ми е 17", съответно ми трябва 1024х768. Когато сменя от опциите да ми е 1024х768 се пуска доста уголемен екран (изобщо панелите, шрифтвовете, прозорците са огромни за 1024х768). Този проблем го имах и в останалите дистрота, като дебиан, убунту, зенуолк и т.н., но там само първия път като направех настройката (пак ставаше така) и като рестарирах се оправяше. Ако може да ми кажете какво да направя, когато пусна Х да ми е с нормална резолюция, ще съм ви много благодарен. Като за начало имах xorg.conf-vesa, но аз си конфигурирах хорг и го добавих в /etc/X11/, където има вече и xorg.conf. 17 инчов монитор е 1280/1024 а не 1024 на 768. Тази резолюция е за 15.4 инчов монитор. Ето така изглежда секция screen на ubuntu и дебиан при 1024/768 и липсващ драйвър. Щом нямаш драйвър за видеокартата не знам какви амбиции имаш да постигнеш повече от 60 Hz Това е от мен, от Slackware не разбирам, но има доста по- компетентни колеги които съм сигурен че ще ти помогнат.

@rambobg В твоя xorg.conf използваш режим "1024x768_85.00" (има и "1024x768_75.00") в SubSection "Display", но по-нагоре във файла си закоментирал самия ред Modeline "1024x768_75.00". Вероятно си изтрил нещо и той се е качил при горния ред, който е коментар - # 1024x768 @ 85.00 Hz (GTF)... За да използваш нестандартни резолюции, трябва да си ги дефинирал с ред Modeline. В xorg.conf-vesa се използват Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" без да са описани по-напред, но това са стандартни VESA резолюциии, доколкото знам. Не виждам и опция DefaultDepth в Section "Screen" . Би трябвало да огледаш тези неща и да ги оправиш. Можеш да използваш gtf (цък ($2)), за да си генерираш подходящи Modeline (или cvt, за което става дума тук ($2); не знам какво е налично в Slackware). Ако оправиш тези неща и не намалее големината на буквите, може би трябва да си поиграеш с настройката на DPI. Огледай го, може да ти даде някакви идеи. В него се изключва използването на EDID (Option "UseEdidDpi" "FALSE") и се задава собствен DPI (Option "DPI" "96 x 96"). Може да опиташ и с опция DisplaySize в Section "Monitor", която също може да се използва за задаване на DPI (при мен съм използвал DisplaySize 270.0 203). За повече инфо виж тук ($2) или потърси нещо по-подходящо в Интернет.

17 инчов монитор е 1280/1024 а не 1024 на 768. Тази резолюция е за 15.4 инчов монитор. Ето така изглежда секция screen на ubuntu и дебиан при 1024/768 и липсващ драйвър. Щом нямаш драйвър за видеокартата не знам какви амбиции имаш да постигнеш повече от 60 Hz Това е от мен, от Slackware не разбирам, но има доста по- компетентни колеги които съм сигурен че ще ти помогнат.

Не знам да има пряка връзка между големината на монитора и неговата резлюция. Аз в момента съм със 17 инчов монитор, който е с резолюция 1280х1024.

Значи по метода на trosho се получи работата( DPI, Resolution). Но има друг проблем... Refreshment (Hz) се пуска дифолт на 75 от менюто мога да обърна дори до 100 херца и работи, ама се пуска на 75, аз искам да ми е 85. къде бъркам? Съдя по това: # 1024x768 @ 85.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 60.15 kHz; pclk: 81.80 MHzModeline "1024x768_75.00" 81.80 1024 1080 1192 1360 768 769 772 802 -HSync +Vsync Възможно ли е да е имало още редове, а ти да си изтрил реда с Modeline за 85Hz и реда с коментар към Modeline за 75Hz? Опитай да използваш инструмента, за който стана дума по-горе и да генерираш два реда с Modeline за честоти 75Hz и 85Hz. Така ще провериш за коя честота е редът в текущия ти xorg.conf и ако е грешен ще го оправиш.

Намерих в нета някакви, на много места е това

Пробвах да го сложа но никак не е екрана както на 1024х768 85херца. Монитора ми е центриран попринцип перфектно за 85 херца, а сега имам една огромна черна черта в единия край от дясно, което е тъпо това не са 85херца. Знам, че обяснението ми звучи тъпо ама.. не знам как да го обясня. Другото, което е, че не мога да мина на 85 херца в Settings-> Display, щото съм си на тях (което е добре, напипал съм нещо, преди беше на 75) Ама самия дисплей не е на 85, щото когато бях на 75 и минавах от опцийте на 85 екрана ставаше перфектен, докато сега - не.

Това сложих и осъзнах, че когато имам предпочитана резолюция (PreferredMode "1024x768_85.00"), не ми пуска Х, а казва, че не намира екран. (Error: no screen нещо такова).

НЕ. Не можеш да използваш стойности, които са генерирани за друг модел монитор. Не само че няма да стане, но дори можеш да си повредиш монитора, ако не внимаваш какво слагаш в този ред. Пак ще кажа - използвай gtf, за да генерираш свои редове за Modeline. За да разбереш начина на използване, виж линка по-горе (или "man gtf").
Единственото дистро, което е базирано на Slackware и до което имам достъп в момента, е Salix (Live LXDE). В него е налична тази команда. Като гледам този пост - цък ($2), би трябвало и в оригиналния Slackware да е налична.
Edit: Май сме писали едновременно. Ако си генерирал Modeline специално за твоя монитор и си сигурен, че проблемът не е в това, тогава опитай да премахнеш реда с PreferredMode. При мен работеше, но в Section "Screen" нямам редове с Modes. Освен това, за да работи този ред, е необходимо драйверът да поддържа RandR 1.2 (според документацията).
Има и някакви разлики между CVT (Coordinated Video Timings ($2)) и GTF (Generalized Timing Formula ($2)), които не са ми ясни. Ако някой друг знае какво трябва да се използва в случая, може да уточни. Виждам, че в моя xorg.conf е бил използван CTF, но не знам защо е било така. Мониторът ми е с електронно-лъчева тръба и може това да е причината (пише, че CVT е за модерните LCD монитори??).
