Дистрибуцията е Ubuntu 7.10
Монитора Dell E771p
Видеокарта GF 7300 GT
Имам инсталирани всички най-нови драйвери на nvidia.
Всеки опит за настройка на резолюция 1024x768 на 85 херца пропадат, когато ползвам вградените инструменти в КДЕ.
Слагам всичко както му е реда драйвери избирам и монитор. Стойностите на монитора ги имам зададени и съм проверил, че програмата задава правилните заводски вертикални и хоризонтални честоти в Xorg.
Дори да се докара желата резолюция херцовете определено не могат да се докарат до 85.

По този начин постигам желаната резолюция и ми работи и Beryl. В графичното меню за настройка на резолюция имам избор на честоти между 50 и 60 херца а на практика виждам, че монитора работи на повече от 60 херца.
Как да разбера сега дали всичко е наред и дали съм на 85 херца?
При задаване в Xorg на това: 1027x768@85 отново се оплесква графиката.
Какъв съвет бихте ми дали в тази ситуация?

Мониторът ти има статус на колко херца работи в момента. Всеки себеуважаващ се монитор ги има тези неща.. Виж в менюто за настройка на монитора...

HINT: програмчето gtf върши чудеса ':p'

Генерира ти тайминг формули за твойта конфигурация, които трябва да се добавят в съответната секция на X-a

Най-вероятно тази програмка ще ми е полезна. Довечера ще я пробвам и ще пиша за резултата.
Иначе графичните инструменти за настройка на X в KDE и GNOME колкото и да ги доизкосуряваха не струват щом не могат да се справят с такава елементарна хардуерна конфигурация.
Всъщност справят се понеже X работи но резултата е отчайващ. На никого не му се работи на 60 херца а и при ръчна настройка на X определено ме лъже за текущите херцове на монитора.

Много благодаря за помоща сега вече всичко е наред. Не знаех, че NVIDIA имат такъв прекрасен инструмент за настройка под Линукс. Доскоро бях с интелско вградено видео и затова настройките на NVIDIA за мен са новост.
Интересното обаче в случая е, че в системните настройки на КДЕ за резолюцията продължават да си стоят някакви показатели не отговарящи на истината. Ето и сега как изглежда Xorg.conf

Така да попитам и аз нещо с Ати Радеон 9000 съм , но ползвам отворените драйвери проблема е следният:
с гтф съм си генерирал няколко моделинета за различни резолюций и рефреш , но те работят само и единствено , когато не ползвам Composite extensions
ето изхода на xrandr в момента

Не знам колко ще те успокои, но и при мен проблемът е същият (Kubuntu 7.10, GeForce 6600 Go, а дисплея е лаптопски TFT 1400х1050).
Имам чувството, че KDE тула е тотално счупен. Просто отвори лога на Х и виж той какво казва по въпроса '<img'>

Има някой дребни неща дето съм омазал, НО това горе-долу е единственият начин по който горе-долу стабилно да подкарам Compiz-Fusion, тъй като преди да си поиграя с конфигурацията беше безумно нестабилно на Gutsy и сериозно обмисля, да изчакам по-добри времена '<img'> Иначе лошо впечатление ми прави какво променя KDE tool и какво nvidia-settings. Едното слага едни настройки, другото ги мести и закоментира.. тотален шит. За това прецених, да се доверя на nvidia-settings, тъй като все пак идва с драйверите на nVidia и се предполага, че са верните, да не говорим, че точно nvidia-settings ми разпозна правилно монитора, името, резолюцията и поддържаните херци :-)

П.П. Като си направиш "перфектните" настойки си направи едно копие на конфигурацията на Х-а и за Бога не пускай KDE тоола (в administraion mode), че той съсипва всичко, което си постигнал по настройките на карта и монитор  ':crazy:'  'B)'
