Embedded and real-time Linux have been rapidly gaining traction in consumer electronics and made significant advance into industrial computing. Today, Linux runs a wide range of industrial applications including real-time and safety-related systems. This vast pool of technology not only has the potential to improve the capabilities of computer systems in general but also has the ability to include new regions of this world into this creative process. These regions have been excluded so far due to the economic constraints involved with proprietary development models. Opening the door for the creative potential of engineers in Africa, exchanging ideas between diverse technical cultures is an essential contribution to advancing the capabilities of Open Source.

The second international conference of the openSUSE project takes place in Nuremberg, Germany from 20th to 23rd of October 2010. It is put under the motto
Collaboration across Borders

All users, contributors and friends of the openSUSE project and free software are invited to come together for four days of interaction, discussing, learning, planing and hacking. The motto should come to life and for that we explicitly like to invite contributors to other projects or distributions. Please come to Nuremberg, discuss with us, present new and innovative stuff that moves the entire free software world forward or sit back and learn and enjoy what the openSUSE project can offer for you.

A big part of the conference will be presentations aimed to FOSS contributors and users. Another part will be Birds of a Feather Sessions where people work on specific topics in an interactive discussion style. Hacking sessions of various special interest teams within the community make the real FOSS conference spirit and will give you very short nights.

The openSUSE Conference has been and will be again a place where decisions are going to be taken. We are convinced that meeting face to face gives the best opportunity to really move the project forward by discussing and taking decisions.

Netfilter is a free software community-driven project, launched in 1998, that aims to provide firewalling tools for the GNU/Linux operating system. Since the Netfilter Workshop (NFWS) series were established in 2001, they have provided a space to present the status of the current works, to discuss on-going research challenges and to elaborate the development plan.

Following the lastest successful NFWS in Paris, France. We are happy to announce that the next event in these series will take place in Seville, Andalusia, Spain, from October 18th to 21th, 2010; in the facilities of the ETS Ingeniería Informática of the University of Seville in the Reina Mercedes Campus.

Free Culture between Commons and Markets: Approaching the Hybrid Economy?

The Free Culture Research Conference presents a unique opportunity for scholars whose work contributes to the promotion, study or criticism of a Free Culture, to engage with a multidisciplinary group of academic peers and practitioners, identify the most important research opportunities and challenges, and attempt to chart the future of Free Culture. This event builds upon the successful workshop held in 2009 at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University, organized and attended by renowned scholars and research institutions from the US, Europe and Asia. The first event was held in Sapporo, Japan, in 2008, in conjunction with the 4th iCommons Summit. This year's event is larger in ambition and scope, to provide more time for interaction in joint as well as break-out sessions. It is hosted jointly by the Free University of Berlin and the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies and will take place at October 8-9, 2010 at the Free University Campus in Berlin, in collaboration with COMMUNIA, the European Network on the digital public domain and Wikimedia Germany. Funding and support is also provided by the Heinrich Böll Foundation.

FrOSCamp is a multilingual two-day event taking place on the premises of the ETH Zurich in September. It is completely free of charge and no preregistration for visitors is required. The event consists of an exhibition, talks, workshops and hackfests featuring free and open source software, free content, open standards, open systems and digital sustainability. People and projects are invited to demonstrate their work and to explain visitors said topics. The event is free of any commercial offerings (save swag, snacks and beverages) and is open to any visitor. Projects should take the chance to hold their yearly meeting during the gathering as we allow them to realize their own ideas by providing all the space and infrastructure.

FrOSCamp is being organized for the first time in 2010. Participants from around the world (and of course Switzerland ) are welcome!
We will also have a fancy party with creative commons licensed beer and music in the evening of the first event day.

PyCon India 2010 is the primary Python conference in India. A purely volunteer effort, it is being hosted for the second time in India, and will attract some of the best Python developers in India and abroad.

The conference will take place on 25th and 26th, September 2010.

The conference will consist of a number of full length presentations, a number of shorter lightning talks and open sprints and BoFs.
