Пускам темата тук, а не в секцията за игри, тъй като мисля, че проблема не е в играта. Та да си дойдем на въпроса. В момента използвам Слак 10.2 (ядро 2.6.14.4), ъпдейтван до current. Имам инсталирани драйвъри за видеокартата (Радеон 9200 SE), които мисля са инсталирани както трябва. Когато напиша fglrxinfo ми изкарва:

OpenGL скрийнсейвърите не сечат, изкарвам около 1600FPS когато пусна glxgears, но Quake-a не иска да работи като хората. При пускане виждам нормално логото на ID software, но като го прекъсна (или изчакам) екрана "замръзва" на последното показано. И не иска да продължи по-натам. Интересното е, че като мърдам мишката от време на време чувам звука, който се чува когато мишката мине над даден бутон от менюто на Quake-a. Опитвах поне 10 пъти да подкарам играта, но не иска и не иска ... За инсталацията на драйвърите използвах "ati-driver-installer-8.20.8-i386.run", а играта ми я даде приятел от неговото РС (пак Слак). Следвах инструкциите от тук как да си компилирам ядрото за да имам 3д поддръжка.

Проблема седи още. Обаче успях да направя картинка на ставащото. Ето я тук. Quake-a прилича на забил, но не е! Само картината не работи както трябва ...

Ами сложи в autoexec.cfg опция да не ти пуска интрото. Нещо от рода на set nointro "1" или сложи като опция +disconnect като пускаш играта. За тези двете не съм сигурен карам наизуст.
Преди със същата видео карта и драйверите от Xorg играта си вървеше много добре в нас. Даже вървеше по-добре отколкото с драйверите на ATI. Сега не знам как е, защото от доста време вече нямам ATI.

Проблема явно е в драйвърите. И други игри не вървят, въпреки че са си версии за линукс. Проблема може ли да е в това, че не съвпадат версиите на gcc, с които е компиран драйвъра и ядрото?

Не мисля да е това. Пробвай да вземеш от система някъде в /usr/llib libGL и да го замениш с този в директорията на играта ако има. Преди поне за UT помагаше.
